Panasonic SC-BT330 5.1 Channel Cinema Surround Home Entertainment System

Panasonic SC-BT330 5.1 Channel Cinema Surround Home Entertainment System Review

I have been in the market to get streaming content on my TV for a while now. I compared this unit against the LG-LHB535. The LG has some added features.

1. Built in Wifi
2. Streaming software… which means you can stream from your computer.
3. HDMI inputs.

Otherwise the Panasonic works awesome. It’s fast and responsive, easy to setup, small and sleek, and it’s cheaper than the comparable LG unit.

It includes the following features.

1. Amazon video rentals… Awesome.. However it’s for most regular rentals and then more for HD. I’m still a bigger fan of RedBox for anything… Amazon I might be holding out on your steep prices.

2. Netflix the same as everything else… other than the interface is really simple and ugly like the PS3 interface. It’s not as easy to navigate and search like the X Box 360 or on your computer.

3. Youtube which is cool.

4. Picas pictures which is neat but almost useless in some cases.

5. iPhone/iPod doc that allows audio and video playback. Very cool, it charges and doesn’t display the “this accessory is not made to work with your device” message.

6. Blue ray, DVD, burned DVD’s etc.

7. Two fiber optic inputs that allow you to plug in your infamous HD DVD player or some other audio sources. Would have liked to see HDMI here… LG has it.

8. Viera Link which is cool if you have a Panasonic TV like I do. It turns the stuff on off etc by communicating over the HDMI cable.

9. The sound is AMAZING for as cheap as this unit is. The speakers are crisp and clear. Very nice surround sound. I had a Sony STR-K750P, and this Panasonic system is way better.

Overall the packaging was slick with everything well packaged for shipment. I couldn’t find the electronic version of the manual online anywhere. The specs say it’s wireless ready, which means it has a USB port on the back that you have to pay 0 to get the Panasonic WIFI dongle. Total rip off. I just hard wired.

The menus are not quite as elegant as the Apple TV, it also has this hard switch thing.. Basically if you need to adjust any settings, it unloads the web content dashboard thing, then takes you back to the DVD menu. So there is a bit of a lag making adjustments. I don’t understand why they just didn’t layer the menus and then reload if your settings require it. It also has some sort of quick on feature. Basically if you start it up from scratch, AKA no power supplied, it takes about 30 seconds to boot.. So they added this quick boot thing which makes the unit run in some kind of a standby. It tells you it will consume slightly more power while in this mode. I did have a couple times where the web interface streaming thing had garbled text, I tried powering on off, but it doesn’t fully reboot if you use the quick boot. In order to get it to fully reboot, you have to turn it off, then unplug the power and re-connect.

The manual isn’t very descriptive and there is a lot of technical jargon as you wade deeper into the settings. Lots of color control, bit level, sound stuff, display stuff etc.

It does have the capability to adjust the surround and EQ levels while playing. It’s not entirely intuitive, and the manual is wrong, but it works. When you use the buttons on the bottom of the remote to adjust the surround, it displays on little screen on the unit, the levels. In the manual it tells you to use up and down to adjust these. I must have wasted 20 minutes on this part before I tried left and right and then it worked. Looks like Panasonic needs an updated manual. The firmware on the unit is 1.0 which hopefully means there will be some software updates sooner than later. It would be nice to see layered settings menus, and they have some room on the dash board for new content.

The unit is so new that if you use a Logitec Harmony remote, it won’t detect your unit yet. I had to use the older model Bt-300 or something to get my Logitec remote to work.

anyhow.. thats my review… Enjoy!

Panasonic SC-BT330 5.1 Channel Cinema Surround Home Entertainment System Overview

VIERA Cast’s assorted online content just keeps getting better – in addition to the popular contents such as YouTube and Picasa Web Albums, it now offers Pandora Internet Radio, movies streamed from Netflix, exciting sports from FOX Sports, and tweeting web communications with Twitter. No PC required. By using a combination of real speakers and virtual speakers, a more natural and smoother sound can be enjoyed. You’ll notice the difference, epecially in an action scene – you’ll feel like you’re sitting in the center of a true cinema theater. With the new bamboo cone speakers, the sound becomes much more responsive. Vocals are more pure and cleaner, and the dialog is crisper and easier to understand than ever before. The SC-BT330 is compatible with a new feature of ARC (Audio Return Channel). ARC allows receiving audio signals from the TV, on top of the preexisting HDMI function of sending audio/video signals to the TV with just one cable. This new feature will simplify the connection by eliminating an audio cable connection between the TV audio output and the main unit’s audio input.

do not buy this product – madinmn –
I bought this product in March of 2010. Used it 5 times and it broke. An IC power fried on it. Took it to a service center and have been waiting 2 months now for a part. Complained to panasonic and they told me the part was on backorder. Threatened to return the product and they told me that they could get it to the service center in 7-10 days. It was not, called to complain again and wanted to return the product and customer service was horrible. They said if the unit was repairable, I just had to wait fo the part. I spent a good amount of money for a poor quality product and even worst customer service. Save yourself a headache and buy a different brand.

Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Surround System (Single Speaker, Black)

Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Surround System (Single Speaker, Black) Review

I recently upgraded my home theater to 7.1 and went with a great in wall installation for the rear 4. Unfortunately, my wife liked the clutter reduction and “requested” that I ditch the huge tower LCR speakers as well… I investigated several soundbar solutions to add to my existing setup and finding unpowered LCR bars was not easy until I found the Polk SurroundBar 50.

I bought mine through the Amazon Warehouse and it arrived in a truly shredded box, but the contents were in perfect order. Hookup was simple, although the included wires are too long for my install and a little on the scrawny side, but they are well sheathed and color coded for easy install. The variety of mounting/stand solutions was very nice and allowed me to place the bar on the console under my 65″ LCD without a hitch.

Setup and calibration was simple, but as others (including the vendor) have indicated they are a little bright and you MUST have subwoofer support if you want an accurate experience. Surround is as iffy as I would expect, no matter the mojo, but since I was looking for LCR it was perfect. I ended up wiring the SurroundBar’s surrounds to give me a 9.1 setup and it does an admirable job.

Soundbars ARE a compromise – I doubt anyone’s bar will give you the same surround experience as a discrete speaker system. If that is what you’re hoping for, then get 5+ speakers and be done with it. However, if you’re looking for a single speaker solution to give you a reasonable portrayal and you already have an amplifier then look no further.

Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Surround System (Single Speaker, Black) Feature

  • Polk Audio’s patented SDA® Surround Technology delivers a vivid sound field from a single 51″ cabinet
  • Dual front ports for superior clean, low distortion bass
  • Simplified color-coded hookup means no more tangled wires to string around a room
  • Dual cradle mounts give you on-shelf positioning options, and the easy to install wall-mount brackets allow for even greater placement flexibility
  • Magnetically shielded with neodymium motor structures for safe placement on or near TVs

Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 Surround System (Single Speaker, Black) Overview

The Polk Audio SurroundBar 50 is 51″ wide to offer an enveloping surround sound experience to anyone who wants better sound from their TV but does not want to install rear-mounted speakers. It delivers surround sound from a single, multi-driver loudspeaker located under or over the TV screen using SDA Surround technology. SDA Surround technology uses a patented combination of signal processing and acoustical geometry that complements the spacing between your ears to produce surround sound without the need for rear mounted speakers. It can deliver a room-filling surround experience in nearly any location in almost any type of room with no special room characteristics required. The SurroundBar 50 is sized to match the width of 50″ Plasma and LCD TVs. In addition to using SDA Surround technology on the surround channels, the SurroundBar 50 adds SDA Surround image enhancing technology on the front Left & Right channels to further enhance the surround experience as well as produce a huge stereo sound field from a two-channel source. New drivers and crossover design along with a larger enclosure produce far better bass performance than the original SurroundBar. The aluminum enclosure houses nine mid/bass drivers with Neodymium magnets, three dome tweeters and a four-PC board crossover with over 60 components.

Exactly as Described – Todd Buchner –
I was sceptical that this would “fill” our room with sound (16′ X 16′ with 9′ ceiling), but even with my old reciever and sub it does a good job. The bass is lacking, so make sure you have a sub.
It’s definitely not on par with a complete surround system and you can localize, but I am very please with it.
Music (depending on source) sounds fantastic. This is wife friendly and I would recommend it for sure.

Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater System – Black

Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater System – Black Review

Like others out there, I have waited a long time to purchase a Bose Home Entertainment System. My visit to our local Bose Factory Store in Manchester Vermont was nothing short of fantastic. The staff and our audio attendant were very attentative to our customer needs with service and attention to product detail that I have not seen in quite some time in a store. Our initial intent was to look into the Bose 321 System as we were looking for a system that could deliver a home theatre experience in a compact package. As we looked into other systems we came across the V class Lifestyle systems and we were drawn to it’s sleekness in overall design as well as the cube style speakers. I was unaware that Bose produced such a system, but found it to be the perfect compliment to our home theatre as we recently invested in a Blu-Ray Player. In order to get a better sense of overall performance, we decided to experience the home theatre demonstration room as they had the Jewel Cube Speakers we were interested in. The sound produced from these speakers was so crisp and lifelike. We decided on the V30 System as the Jewel Cube speakers were decidedly better in overall sound reproduction and at about ,000 additional I feel they were absolutely worth it. As we do not have an ideal room for home theatre speaker placement, the AdaptiQ feature can and does calibrate brilliantly to give every person in the room the ideal home theatre experience. For those who may wonder, the Acoustimass Module does have both a Bass and Treble Compensation allowing you to customize to your taste. We run our Blu Ray directly to our TV to take advantage of the HDMI 1.3 version and the Satellite System runs through the Media Center and the Audio is hooked up via Digital Optical Cable providing the best overall sound experience for which Bose is known for. Yes the HDMI is 1.2, but version 1.3 is not available on most cable systems and broadcasts are usually in 1080i format. We went in eyes and ears wide open and were focused on the acoustic features of the Bose. I would say that we are very happy with our overall purchase and can highly recommend the Bose Life Style with Jewel Cube speakers.

Expensive yes worth it- YES – M. Winter – Ventura, CA
I just installed this system for a customer. It was a ground up install, hung the speakers including the center from the ceiling. My son and I programed it start to finish in less than 2 hours. Technology is not my strong suit so that amount of time would be for the average consumer. The instal/set-up included configuring the blue-ray player, cable box and TV. My biggest problem was changing the language
it was originally set up in. When I installed the batteries the first time, I pushed a button accidentally, so it was in German. The set up disk was a great help and the ADAPTiQ® system worked very well. The sound is truly amazing, and the speakers are really unobtrusive. A lot of money yes, but in this case it seems to be a good value.

ONKYO SKS-HT240 Home Theater Speaker System

ONKYO SKS-HT240 Home Theater Speaker System Review

I bought these speakers for US0 from Sumaria, Mumbai, IN, back in Feb 2006. It’s now available at Amazon for an amazing price of less than US0.

I had them wall mounted with B-Tech (BT33) wall-mounts. They sound good if set up properly in a small / medium sized room with adequately powered a/v receiver. They are definitely an upgrade to most H.T.I.B. systems.

For 0 it’s really hard to find speakers better than these. That being said, they are not the last word in compact HT speaker category. They are not as good as something almost small and comparable in size such as Paradigm Cinema 90s. The Paradigms have a level of clarity, efficiency, mid-range & smoothness that these speakers find hard to match up with. That also makes Paradigm Cinema-90 series one of the cheapest amongst Paradigm’s other well known speakers and almost 3 times more expensive than these Onkyo speakers. I know, I have just compared apples to oranges and it’s still at the very bottom of high end audio. Lol.

The unique selling point of this speaker system is the well designed subwoofer. It’s got an 8 inches down firing woofer with a built-in 77 – 150 watts (peak) r.m.s. amplifier. It has a front port so placement near walls in smaller rooms is less complicated, compared to rear ported designs. Similar design goals are found on Polk Audio DSW PRO series subwoofers, which I like better. The front ported and down firing design eliminates the use of a speaker grill in front of the subwoofer. I like this arrangement because subwoofer speaker grills have no sonic benefits, & they mostly attract dust and dirt.

The subwoofer sounds powerful and may get boomy at times if pushed really hard. On the negative side, this subwoofer only has a single LFE RCA line-in jack & a volume knob on the back panel. There is no line level-in facility for front speakers and there is no crossover selector knob either. So this speaker system can only be used with a/v receivers that have an in-built bass management. As per the specifications given, it does not go below 30hz. I really doubt that claim. I don’t think it may even be going below 40hz. It should be well suited for most living rooms / apartments. On the other hand, if you like to bring your house down along with your neighbour’s then you need to look elsewhere, such as Paradigm’s Signature Servo, which goes all the way down to 9hz. Phew! Do you really need your subwoofer to go that low when our hearing range is limited to 25hz – 25khz at best? As we get past 30years of age, it’s further limited to 30hz – 20khz. Think about it.

Most people who buy these speakers would buy it for it’s low profile and wall mounting capabilities. Unfortunately, these satellite speakers are rear ported, making wall mounting option a bit tricky. You will definitely need wall-mounts to avoid close proximity to the wall. Acoustic suspension or front ported speaker designs would have made it better.

Cost cutting measures such as spring loaded clips, instead of binding posts and fixed cloth speaker grills in front of the satellite speakers, may also be seen as negative points but not as a deal breaker.

Most speaker manufacturers seem to play with specification. Onkyo is no exception. The woofer for the satellite speaker is barely 3 inches in diameter and it claims to go as low as 65hz. Yeah right! Yawn…….

I still give them 4 stars because no one can give you speakers with such aesthetics, performance & value for money for under US0. I had these speakers paired with an Onkyo TX-SR604 and Pioneer DV-610AV universal DVD player. The upgrade bug eventually bit me and I’ve moved on to a Paradigm cinema – 90/110C system for Zone 1 & Mordaunt Short – MS902i for Zone 2.

I would recommend these speakers to anyone who is on a very tight budget and is building their first home theater system in a small / medium sized room. They will not disappoint you for the money you pay. Be prepared to spend more money on wall mounts / stands & decent cables to get the best out of these speakers.

Paradigm Cinema-90s, 70s, Mirage Omnisat V2s, Nanosats and Mordaunt Short Alumnis are other speakers also worth considering in the compact HT speaker category.

Frequency Response – 27 Hz – 150 Hz (Subwoofer) Includes connecting cable Onkyo USA 2 Years Parts and Labor Warranty

Great speakers – Darryl – Massachusetts
I did alot of research on an affordable set of surround speakers and came up with the Onkyo SKS-HT240’s as one of the best by reading reviews and looking at top 10 lists. I already had a solid yamaha receiver so I just needed to replace my old JBL stereo speakers with surround. I would say my living room is small to average size and I have the speakers paired up with the Yamaha receiver, a 46 inch Samsung 750, a PS3, and a Wii (all of which I highly recommend). I use amazon alot but I paid 0 on ebay for them on 3/2/09 which was the best deal I could find.

The speakers showed up on my door and were quite heavy. Once I opened the box I noticed that the speakers were somewhat larger than I anticipated and the subwoofer was huge. They are nice and heavy and look great. I was worried that the subwoofer might not be strong enough but I was totally wrong. It has plenty of kick to it and I usually dont turn the dial up past the halfway point. I hooked everything up and noticed that the wires they gave me were pretty thin and not nearly long enough for the rear speakers. I ordered some 14 gauge wire from amazon because BestBuy wanted to rip my face off. I left the original wire in the front and center speakers and hooked up the rears with 14 gauge because I didnt want to lose power with the distance of the wire. Before I did that though, I did a little experiment and hooked up one rear with the thin wire and one rear with the 14 gauge and I really couldnt tell the difference but I used 14 gauge anyway and it helps me to sleep at night. Someone said that they had trouble hanging the speakers because there were no clips that would fit them but all you have to do is put a screw in the wall and hang them on the screw. Pretty simple.

I hooked these speakers up as 5.1 instead of 6.1 and I found them to be excellent for the price. Are there better speakers out there? Sure, but not in this price range. One guy made a comment in a review that the center speakers (voice) were lacking but I dont really find that and I can adjust the center speaker volume separately on my receiver. I dont think I would consider myself an audiophile but I’m pretty close. These speakers sound great with movies, video games, and music which was a must for me. It took me a while to play with all of the different options on the reciever to come up with the best sound but that has nothing to do with the speakers and overall I am impressed. I think its hard to get a good idea on speakers because people cant separate the speakers from their receivers and which one does what. I’ll say that if you have a good receiver these speakers will not let you down.

Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System

Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System Review

Sony RHT-S10 Home Theater Built-In Sound Rack System
I purchased this sound system to augment my new Samsung 67 inch LCD/DLP television which has just average internal speakers. I wanted a simple straight forward listening device which would bring me Surround Sound and Dolby Digital. This unit fit my requirements perfectly in that it has HDMI inputs (2) and an HDMI output, as well as an optical input. I connected my Comcast STB (Explorer 8300HD) via the optical, directly to this unit thereby providing me the Digital 5.1/ Dolby Sound. This in turn eliminates sound going to the TV, which is preferable for me. I then connected the DVD player to the Sony sound system via HDMI and finally connected the Sony Theater to the TV via HDMI. The sound is just great, as the sub woofer is built in to the sound bar and is not overly loud, which is desirable for my listening taste.
I did a lot of research before buying the Sony Theater and although this is a new unit and there are no reviews yet, I thought it must be better than the others I read about, which all seemed to have an issue or two. My Comcast remote will turn this unit on, as well as the TV, and SA 8300, which is a must for me. I can control the sound via the aux button on the remote.
One interesting issue, this unit is made for wall mounting and comes with a center woofer speaker on the bottom. I wanted to place it on a shelf within my TV cabinet so I had to lift the sound bar up off the glass shelf using felt pads, it worked just fine but you need almost 8 inches of open shelf space to accomplish this task. I called Sony and asked them to consider making a cradle or add feet for this purpose.
My first listening experience was a Red Sox Game and the Dolby came through big time, every change of a graphic was accompanied by a swoosh, pretty entertaining stuff. I recommend this unit to anyone who wants a quality listening experience, good looks and the latest technological interfaces.

Awesome Sound Solution – Thomas G. Lepisto – usa
The RHT Sony Sound Bar was the perfect solution for the sound system for our Wall mounted 52″ Sony LCD. It is great looking, compact and produces very nice sound from the TV Signal, DVD, IPOD ( When you buy the cradle) and FM/ Input sources. The neat thing is the way it senses the input and will automatically switch sources. I have an aux. sub woofer, which I would recommmend. There are NO rear speakers to wire or buy. As I said above, the sound quality is good!, Good enough for me and is a reasonable trade-off for looks and simplicity. If you are a serious audiophile, you will probably want a conventional theater system. If you are like me and watch TV and ocassional movies, you will be very impressed.

Sony is great, I looked at other sound bars, but defaulted to the Sony brand and the Bravia system that all my comopnents have.

If you wall mount this, you may want to purchase some 90deg. HDMI adapters. It makes the cableing of the HDMI wires easier.

Sony SRS-Z1 Personal Active Speaker System with “Floating” Speaker Design

Sony SRS-Z1 Personal Active Speaker System with “Floating” Speaker Design Review

I had been looking for a better quality speaker to replace the high quality (but huge) speakers that were packaged with my new Sony R series computer. I considered the Bose media mates and others recommended on this site but most still took a significant chunk of real estate and did little to free up visual space either. So I noticed the SRS-Z1 on the Sony website and immediately thought, there is no way that those tiny little things with only three watts per channel are going to sound half as good as my current speakers but…

So here they sit on my desk, barely even noticable among the stacks of… never mind. Bottom line, if you want an all in one portable system or a simple two speaker, easy-on-the-eyes replacement for your computer speakers LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE! If however you are willing to add a subwoofer and create your own mini audiophile system BUY A SET NOW!

Without a good sub these speakers are huantingly transparent and accurate to a fualt but they have no bass what-so-ever. Imagine a set of .99 headphones and you’ll be in the right frame of mind. Yes, the fidelity is much higher than a transister radio but the frequency loss on the low end is similiar. Once a sub with mini plug output is added however this system just opens up. Freed of the need to produce the low frequencies these speakers make mids and highs seem to hang in the air as smoothly and delicately as anything else on the market. After about ten minutes of E.Q. adjustment on my computer these speakers are comparable in sound to my (Much larger floor speakers) Bose 701s in the living room, with a little help from the sub.

If the price tag scares you, remember that prices vary wildly from shop to shop and todays latest and greatest is tomorrows bargain bin filler.

Sony SRS-Z1 Personal Active Speaker System with “Floating” Speaker Design Overview

SONY SRS-Z1, 6 WATT POWERED PERSONAL SPEAKER SYSTEM WITH AMPLIFI

Sony Speaker System – Ward Parker – Brooklyn, NY, USA
All around good speakers for the price. They don’t handle bass real well but for their size they do an okay job with it. Mid range and treble are all real good. Music played over them is clear and distortion free. Overall a good deal.

Sony SRS-Z1 Personal Active Speaker System with “Floating” Speaker Design Specifications

The SRS-Z1 active speaker system comes complete with an amplifier and two satellite speakers. The speakers have die-cast aluminum chassis stands, the color of which match Sony’s Discman and MiniDisc portable recorders and players. The color is also a classy, high-tech color and looks appropriate in any room setting. The speakers are powered by an included AC adaptor. Built-in controls for volume and power are front mounted for easy access. Included in the package is a two meter (6.6 feet) connecting cord with a stereo mini-jack, the ideal cord for connecting these speakers to a wide range of components.

With six watts of power, these speakers produce a quality sound. Sony also uses sigma-type magnetic circuitry which aids in producing a deep bass sound. The 1 1/2 inch speakers deliver excellent sound for their size. The 1 1/2 inch bass reflex woofer has a folded sound duct for high acoustic output. Sony has also engineered a “floating” speaker design into the SRS-Z1. This design elevates the speakers slightly and eliminates reflective waves, creating a crisp and accurate sound. Stylish looks, crisp sound, quality bass: the SRS-Z1 creates big sound in a small package.
